On New Years Eve - CCO's typical Saturday breakfast took on a life of itself and became likely the third most attended event of the entire year as 55 members and guests took a leisurely drive in 30 cars from the Orlando area to DeLeon Springs and the Spring Garden Ranch Standardbred Winter Training Facility.  Don and Mike put together this last-minute success story and it was a blast.  The ranch operates a full service restaurant serving Breakfast and lunch in a long dining room lined with picture windows looking out on a one-mile oval harness horse training track.  Beautifully set in the back woods of Volusia County, Spring Garden Ranch is certainly a local jewel and a well kept secret from the rest of Florida.  We spent about 2 1/2 hours here - between a huge breakfast and a facility tour where our guide talked and took questions about how the yearling through 2 year old harness horse and owner & training staff comes to DeLeon Springs in numbers nearing 300 to 400 horses each winter prior to moving back north for the racing season.  We were shown the Tack shop, paddock/stables and more private training areas during the tour.  The most fascinating though was the one mile track itself where dozens of trainer/horse teams trotted round and round for the entire morning - which was totally enshrouded in fog when we arrived, and blue sky clear after the fog burned away as the morning progressed.
